Well, back to school tomorrow. Yay.
I should mention now that the following cut is kinda redundant in Grim Fandango, as anyone who's read Lockjaw will know Chowchilla Charlie's view on the matter discussed below, and I happen to share it. Anyone else who has some interest in X-Men, though; go on in!
Also, there's a ficathon coming up that I'd love to do. Looked at the sign ups and so on, started filling one in, but then clicked back. The thing with me is that smut is a no-no; implied smut I'll do, but due to a self imposed 'no-smut-until-you're-more-than-legal' rule, I don't normally travel there, and the thing with fanfiction is that a large percentage of it is that kind of thing, and most of the requests are asking for it.
I can see myself having a go and failing with bad euphemisms and the like. I cringe over that kind of thing in movies; how could I write it properly without feeling like a hypocrite? That's a very much rhetorical question, by the way, because I know the answer- I wouldn't be able to.
Anyways, the whole thing's over the summer, during which time I'm at the World Scout Jamboree and on holiday anyway. Also, ficathons stress me out because of that horrible feeling that my writing is atrocious and I'll never be as good as people who've been scribbling for years and I'll get laughed at and shunned. This means I change ideas, worry if it's good enough and scrap my story hours before the deadline. This came to the point that I got my story beta-ed (by
jackks, bless her, who was so kind to do so) about an hour and a half before I submitted it.
Jeez, I need to stop fretting over this and have another ego-tastic review trawlwhere everyone feels they have to be kind because I'm ignorant and can't use the English language properly. Nothing wrong with being a feedback monster, after all. (Please note that this hasn't stopped me from writing at all, but, y'know...)
